Celebrating Red Ribbon Week
From October 23–31, FVSD schools are recognizing Red Ribbon Week, a national campaign encouraging students to make healthy, positive choices and remain drug-free.
Throughout the week, our campuses are engaging students in developmentally appropriate activities that reinforce positive decision-making, personal responsibility, and healthy habits. These experiences help students understand that the choices they make today can contribute to their well-being tomorrow.
Meet the People Behind Student Support: FVSD School Counselors
Supporting healthy choices goes well beyond one week of awareness activities. Across FVSD, our dedicated team of school counselors works alongside students, families, teachers, and administrators throughout the year to foster positive school environments and support student success.
With counselors serving all three middle schools and our elementary campuses, FVSD provides opportunities for students to develop important social-emotional skills, build positive relationships, navigate challenges, and seek help when needed.
Whether helping students develop problem-solving strategies, strengthen peer relationships, or connect with additional resources, our school counselors are an important part of FVSD’s commitment to the whole child.
Identifying Student Needs Early Through Universal Screening
Another important component of student well-being is recognizing when students may benefit from additional support.
Universal screening is a proactive approach schools use to better understand students’ strengths and identify potential needs. Screening efforts may include hearing, vision, and social-emotional learning (SEL), providing valuable information to help schools support students’ learning and development.
These screenings are not diagnoses. Instead, they help identify areas where additional attention, resources, or follow-up may be beneficial. By recognizing potential needs early, school staff and families can work together to provide timely support and help students be successful.
Families interested in learning more about universal screening tools are encouraged to contact their child’s school staff.
Working Together for Healthy Futures
From celebrating positive choices during Red Ribbon Week to providing year-round counseling services and early identification of student needs, FVSD remains committed to creating safe, supportive learning environments where every student can thrive.
Thanks to our dedicated school counselors, staff, families, and community partners for their ongoing commitment to student health and well-being.
