The Multi-Purpose Room at Fulton Middle School was filled to capacity on Wednesday night as families of current 5th graders gathered for the first of our district’s middle school orientations. It was a night dedicated to "de-mystifying" the jump to middle school and ensuring every student and guardian feels supported during this transition.
Principal Jenny Salberg, Assistant Principal Molly Kuykendall, and Counselor Allyson McFerran set a warm, inclusive tone for the evening. In a touching moment, each staff member who spoke was asked to share one word describing how they want students to feel on campus—answers like "connected," "excited," and "belonging" echoed throughout the room.
Highlights of the evening included:
-
Department Presentations: Teachers from every subject area explained the curriculum, special programs, and the many layers of support available to students.
-
Musical Showcases: Attendees were treated to spectacular performances by the Fulton Choir, directed by Elena MacDonald, and the Band and Orchestra, directed by Jeremy LaMantia.
-
The "Roadmap" to 6th Grade: Families walked away with comprehensive information packets, including bell schedules and sample Elective Request Forms to prepare for the students' official campus visits the following day.
Moving from elementary to middle school can feel intimidating, but the Fulton team proved that with the right preparation and a lot of heart, our students are ready to soar. Thank you to everyone who attended and to the staff who worked so hard to host such a successful event!
